Phobia is a type of anxiety disorder which occurs in several forms pertaining to the situation and surroundings. There are three types of phobias, they are, specific phobia, social phobia and agoraphobia. Each one is different from the other in nature, symptoms and treatment required to cure them is also different.

Specific phobia occurs when one is scared of a particular object or situation. These fears are usually irrational and the person affected with this kind of phobia is aware of the fact that these fears are irrational, but is helpless. People might have fear of elevators, heights, pets, tunnels, driving, swimming etc. One can do the toughest job, but when one has a phobia with something he will not be able to do the task. To avoid facing the object or the situation which causes fear the person might do certain things against his wishes. Some fears disappear, some stay for ever, why is it so, that cannot be explained, they just happen to be like that.

Specific phobia can be cured by a cognitive - behavioral therapy called desensitization or exposure therapy, where the person is exposed to the object or situation which causes fear till the fear fades away. This kind if treatment is usually beneficial for most of the people hence the specific phobia is completely eradicated. Meditation and relaxation exercises also help a lot. The right type of medication is yet to be tested but certain antidepressant drugs can me used for medication. Social phobia is another form of phobia which is common among people.

People who are affected with social phobia are scared of facing crowds and talking in public. This kind of phobia usually begins during childhood and if not cured immediately stays forever. People affected with social phobia are shy to be in public places and prefer solitude. A small mistake committed might put the person in a very embarrassing position which leads to palpitation, sweating, trembling etc. Most of the people who are affected with social phobia are cured with the help of cognitive - behavioral therapy or medication or a little of both.

Agoraphobia is similar to panic phobia which occurs when the person is in a state of panic because of some object or a situation. These attacks may occur at any point of time and may last for few minuets. One may experience shivering, dizziness or jittery during agoraphobia. The social life of the person may change a lot as one might avoid certain situations which might cause an attack. Agoraphobia can be cured with the help of medication which included antidepressants and meditation and relaxation exercises.

Hence phobia is a state of the mind issue, which can be solved by keeping one's mind stable and by having a strong will power. Life is beautiful; enjoy it to the fullest, coz we get to lead this life only once. Don't let the mental disturbances cause a hindrance in your enjoyment.
